Land of Legend

British Columbia has a rich history when it comes to Stone Sheep. This is marked by The Chadwick Ram. The largest stone sheep ever recorded, harvested in 1936 by Lee Sherman Chadwick.

In this film, two hunters, Chris and Devon, set out to find their piece of the legend. They fly to a remote lake in the furthest corner of the province in the hopes of finding and effectively hunting a stone sheep of their own.

Production

This was Fargone’s biggest film trip to date. A three man team of two hunters and one filmmaker made their way north begin the hunt. They spent two days of driving to reach a remote bush plane outifit that then took them on a two hour flight to remote lake on the side of the hunting range. The crew spent a total of ten days in the range and covered a lot of ground. The primary objective was to capture the essence of sheep hunting. The highs, the lows, battling the element and chasing the elusive creature that is the stone sheep with the intention of harvesting a mature ram. There were plenty of wildlife encounters between sheep, caribou, far off mountain goats and even a wolverine. Despite this there were no mature rams to be found in the range. This made telling a compelling story very challenging. Watch the behind the scenes video below to see the story telling strategy that went into filming and creating this hunting story.
